A commemoration event dedicated to the 33rd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was held at the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center).
A minute of silence was observed to honor the memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide.
AIR Center’s Chairman of the Board, Farid Shafiyev, spoke about the massacre committed by the Armenian Armed Forces against peaceful Azerbaijanis on the night of February 25-26, 1992, and drew attention to the fact that Armenian irredentism was at the center of this ethnic cleansing policy.
F. Shafiyev emphasized that on the initiative of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the Khojaly genocide was given a political and legal assessment, and international recognition of the genocide has always taken an important place in the foreign policy pursued by President Ilham Aliyev.
The AIR Center’s Chairman also drew attention to the trial of Armenians accused of crimes against the Azerbaijani people, including the Khojaly genocide.
“Several important issues arose from the ongoing trial, including the actions of the Armenian State. Thus, the trial reveals the illicit actions of the Armenian military forces and the illegal armed formations it created, supported, and directly managed under strict control in Karabakh, against our state and people. In a nutshell, certain evidence already points to Armenia's state accountability," he concluded.
