The delegation of the Center for the Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center) held a number of important meetings as part of its visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The first meeting took place on November 18, 2025, at the Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS). During the discussions with local experts, views were exchanged on various aspects of Azerbaijan-Iran relations, as well as topical issues on the regional agenda. At the end of the meeting, the delegation was presented with a souvenir. Then, the AIR Center representatives then familiarized themselves with the archival documents of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and viewed the exhibition.

The next meeting was held at the School of International Relations, which is responsible for training of diplomatic personnel for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the meeting with the institution’s staff, detailed information was provided about the history and objectives of the School's activities. Discussions also covered various aspects of Azerbaijan-Iran relations. In addition, opportunities for cooperation between the AIR Center and the School of International Relations in the academic and research fields were discussed, and a number of specific proposals were put forward.

On the second day of the visit, a seminar was held at the Institute of Caucasus Studies. At the seminar, AIR Center Board Member Javid Valiyev delivered a presentation on the foreign policy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and senior advisor Masiagha Mahammadi spoke on Azerbaijan-Iran relations. In turn, Jafar Khashe, Director of the Caucasus Studies Institute, spoke about Iran's regional policy. The event concluded with a question-and-answer session.

Additionally, the AIR Center delegation met with employees of the Institute for Iran and Eurasia Studies (IRAS), one of Iran’s leading think tanks and headed by Mehdi Sanaei, Political Advisor to the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. During the meeting, participants discussed developments unfolding in the South Caucasus and bilateral relations and addressed questions raised by both sides. Issues related to future cooperation between the two institutions were also discussed.

To recap, contacts between academic institutions of the two countries have been intensifying since the beginning of this year. Thus, on May 6, 2025, within the framework of a round table held at the AIR Center on the topic of “Azerbaijan-Iran Relations in the Context of Regional Processes", a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the AIR Center and IPIS, aimed at strengthening bilateral academic cooperation.
