Round table dedicated to Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan relations was held at the AIR Center

On June 14, the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center) and the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Azerbaijan jointly organized a round table dedicated to Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan relations and early presidential elections in Uzbekistan. Farid Shafiyev, the AIR Center Chairman, stated that one of Azerbaijan's top foreign policy priorities is developing relations with the Central Asian countries, including Uzbekistan. F.Shafiyev also mentioned that Uzbekistan has always shown a determined support for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. According to him, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are taking necessary steps to increase the trade turnover between the two countries. Further, he emphasized the possibilities for future cooperation along the China-Central Asia-Caucasus-Europe route.

Bobur Usmanov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, indicated the role of the two countries presidents on growing Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan relations. According to him, both countries have a significant economic potential and are willing to boost the annual volume of export-import operations to $1 billion.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Bahrom Ashrafkhanov, also pointed out that the establishment of new approaches for cooperation was the result of regular meetings and visits of the two countries presidents.

While emphasizing on the importance of brotherhood and unity, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Alim Bayel, stated that Central Asian and Caspian countries have the ability to decide on the processes taking place in the region.

The round table afterwards resumed with the remarks of Gulshan Pashayeva, Board Member at the AIR Center; Ilgar Velizade, Head of the South Caucasus Political Science Club; Zaur Mammadov, teacher at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Chairman of the Baku Political Scientists Club, and other experts who spoke on the history, development dynamics and future potential for bilateral relations.
