AIR Center’s Head of Department Shahmar Hajiyev delivered a speech at the “Black Sea Energy and Security International Conference” organized by the Navy League of the United States-Romania Council in the Romanian Parliament building on October 24, 2025.
The Head of Department highlighted the challenges and opportunities in the Black Sea region, protection of energy infrastructure and the strategic role of Azerbaijan in ensuring regional stability and energy connectivity.
Mr. Hajiyev mentioned that the Greater Black Sea region is one of the most vibrant and strategically important corridors in the world.
“The events of recent years have demonstrated how deeply energy dynamics can reshape the architecture of international security. Diversification is the cornerstone of energy security. In this respect, Azerbaijan’s role has become increasingly important. Through the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC), Azerbaijani gas reaches many markets. The partnership between the EU and Azerbaijan extends beyond natural gas and also embraces renewable energy.”
He concluded by emphasizing that governments, industry, and international institutions must work together to safeguard investments, protect supply chains, and ensure the stability of a region that is vital to Europe’s energy future.
To recap, the Black Sea Energy and Security International Conference is an annual high-level forum dedicated to the key strategic, economic, and security dynamics of the Black Sea region. The event brings together government official from the littoral and neighboring states, as well as representatives from NATO and other international organizations, fostering dialogue on regional energy security and geopolitical stability.
