The Center of the Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center) hosted a briefing dedicated to the chairmanship of the Republic of Tajikistan in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in 2025.

In his opening remarks, Chairman of the Board of the AIR Center, Farid Shafiyev, drew attention to the positive dynamics of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan. He stressed the necessity of intensifying contacts among the expert circles and increasing academic exchanges between the two countries.

Touching on the regular meetings of the expert councils with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia, Farid Shafiyev drew attention to the practical results of the relevant discussions—the publication of reviews dedicated to the Azerbaijan-Russia and Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan bilateral agendas.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan Ilhom Abdurahmon stated that his country’s chairmanship will be carried out within the framework of the norms and principles of international law enshrined in the UN Charter, as well as the documents adopted within the framework of the CIS.

“Tajikistan’s efforts will be focused on enhancing the positive image of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) as an integrated union in the international arena, expanding relations with the United Nations (UN) and its specialized agencies, as well as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), and other regional organizations. This includes holding joint events on specific topics and searching for common ground on granting observer status to the SCO under the CIS,” said Ilhom Abdurahmon, Tajikistani Ambassador to Azerbaijan, during the briefing on his country’s CIS chairmanship for 2025.

In addition, the diplomat provided comprehensive information on the measures and plans to be considered by Tajikistan in the political, legal, economic, industrial, environmental, customs, transport, artificial intelligence, humanitarian, parliamentary, and youth policy realms.

According to him, for the first time in the history of the CIS, a joint high-level event on the UN-CIS interaction will be held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

“Efforts will also be focused on facilitating the adoption of another UN General Assembly resolution on cooperation between the UN and the CIS, as well as drafting and adopting the statements on topical items of the international agenda serving the interests of the CIS member states at the levels of heads of state and foreign ministers,” the diplomat noted.

Later, Oraz Murtazozoda, First Deputy Director of the Center for Strategic Research under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Farhad Mammadov, the Director of the Center for Studies of the South Caucasus, and Rafig Ismayilov, Director of the Strategic Consulting Group analytical center, shared their views on the topic.

The event was followed by a Q&A session.
