The AIR Center held a press conference on its activities in 2023

The Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center) held a press conference to address the results of its activities in 2023. Speaking at the conference, the AIR Center Chairman Farid Shafiyev elaborated that it’s been 5 years since the center started operating and this year the institution has also actively focused its efforts on informing the target audience worldwide and locally about Azerbaijan’s foreign policy agenda. He added that the analyses and reports prepared by the Center’s experts covered such topics as the local counter-terrorism measures implemented by Azerbaijan on September, Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process, political processes taking place around the world, etc. During 2023, the center's experts have prepared reports in English on such topics as "The Controversy Surrounding the Lachin-Khankendi Road", "Bashlibel Massacre", "Zangezur Corridor versus Crossroads of Peace: Plan versus Declaration”, "Luis Moreno Ocampo’s Biased Opinion on Karabakh: Abusing the Genocide Convention for Political Ends".

The Center hosted more than 30 conferences, seminars, and webinars in Azerbaijan and abroad during the year. In this context, co-organized by ADA University and the AIR Center, the forum titled "Karabakh: Back Home After 30 Years. Accomplishments and Challenges" was held with the participation of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. Additionally, the 3rd meeting of the Russia-Azerbaijan Expert Council with the participation of Azerbaijani and Russian foreign ministers Jeyhun Bayramov and Sergey Lavrov; an international conference on "Islamophobia as a Specific Form of Racism and Discrimination: New Global and Transnational Challenges” with the Baku International Multiculturalism Centre (BIMC); an international conference entitled "National Leader Heydar Aliyev's Foreign Policy Priorities"; an international conference on "Empowering Africa in the Age of Global Challenges and Promoting Multilateralism: The Role of the Non-Aligned Movement"; a symposium titled “From Bandung to Baku: The Non-Aligned Movement in a Complex and Changing Global Context”; an international conference on "Middle East-Caucasus: Security and Cooperation"; a round table discussion on “Towards Complete Elimination of Colonialism” on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and co-organized with BIMC an international conference on "Iraqi Turkmen and the Turkic World: Restoration of the Historical Memory" were organized by the AIR Center.

On the international arena, the AIR Center held the conference entitled “Heydar Aliyev's Legacy in Turkey-Azerbaijan Relations” in Istanbul; in the framework of cooperation with GLOBSEC, a side event on “Energy and Climate Security: Lessons Learned and Way Ahead” in Bratislava; a round-table titled “Azerbaijan in the South Caucasus: Regional Economic and Security Dynamics” held in London and the "2nd European Conference on Azerbaijan Studies" was organized in Skopje.

It was also noted that about 130 articles written by the experts of the Center were published in "The National Interest", "Jamestown Foundation", "Common Space", "Modern Diplomacy", "EU Reporter", "Eurasia Review", “Anadolu Agency” and other foreign media outlets.

This year, ten experts from Italy, Montenegro, Belgium, Serbia, Mexico, Georgia, Turkey, Israel, and India participated in the Azerbaijan International Development Agency (AIDA) program, which was jointly implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the AIR Center at various times throughout the year.
