A round table was organized dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan

On April 25, a round table was jointly organized by the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center) and the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in the Republic of Azerbaijan dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan.

In his opening speech, The AIR Center Chairman Farid Shafiyev noted that Tajikistan is a valuable partner for Azerbaijan. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Republic of Azerbaijan Rustam Soli said that Tajikistan and Azerbaijan successfully cooperate in political, economic, cultural, inter-parliamentary and other fields. Soli noted that more than 60 documents covering various areas of cooperation have been signed between the two countries. He said that brotherly relations between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan are based on mutual trust. The Ambassador added that work is underway to establish working groups on economic issues. Recalling the opening of the Tajik Chamber of Commerce in Baku in April 2020, R.Soli also noted that Tajikistan has opportunities for cooperation and investment in the agricultural sector in Azerbaijan. At the same time, the Ambassador of Tajikistan spoke about the interaction between the two countries in the field of education drawing attention to the fact that many students from Tajikistan studying in Azerbaijani educational institutions. Soli spoke about regional security, the impact of the events in Afghanistan on his country, as well as possible cooperation with Azerbaijan in fighting terrorism.

Afterwards, Maharram Aliyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan - Head of the Military Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration and the first Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Tajikistan, spoke about the history of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He highlighted the role of the president Emomali Rahmon in the development of relations between the two countries.

In his speech, MP and head of the Azerbaijan-Tajikistan working group on interparliamentary relations Aydin Mirzazade stressed that relations between the two nations have deep historical roots. He defined the relations between the two countries that are based on the interests of both sides as being exemplary. In his speech, Mirzazade stressed the importance of inter-parliamentary relations, especially in the development of bilateral relations. He stressed that Tajikistan has always supported the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and that this support was especially felt by Azerbaijani people during the 44-day war.

Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Bunyad Huseynov touched upon the history of cultural relations between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan and the role of talented people of both nations who are serving as bridge between nations.

Former Ambassadors of Azerbaijan to Tajikistan Abbasali Hasanov and Hasan Mammadzade stressed the importance of people's diplomacy in the development of relations between the two countries.

The event was attended by ambassadors of Central Asian countries and Georgia to Azerbaijan as well as representatives of scientific and social institutions.
