AIR Center advisor Nurad Mammadov’s article entitled “Economic, trade, and transport cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia” was published on the “vzglyad.az” website.

The author does an in-depth analysis of bilateral trade and economic ties between the two countries, as well as reviews the joint projects.

“Azerbaijan-Russia relations are based on strong mutual understanding and friendship, which has become even stronger in recent years. Trade and economic cooperation lay the foundation of Azerbaijan-Russia relations. Azerbaijan is Russia’s main trade partner among the countries of the former USSR that are not part of the Eurasian Economic Union.”

N. Mammadov states that significant progress is being observed in the field of mutual investments.

“There are 900 joint ventures operating in the Azerbaijan market, 1/3 of which are 100% owned by Russia. Over the past years, relations between business associations and small and medium-sized businesses have developed. Russian energy companies such as Gazprom, Transneft, and Lukoil are successfully operating in Azerbaijan.”

Touching on the projects in the field of transport and logistics between the parties, the author notes that one of the most promising projects is the “North-South” International Transport Corridor.

"Azerbaijan is seriously working on the modernization of its infrastructure. Special attention is paid to the restoration and improvement of the country's railway infrastructure.

In the end, N. Mammadov notes that the prospects of creating a single logistics operator within the framework of the “North-South” project will speed up cargo transportation and strengthen cooperation between Azerbaijan, Russia, and Iran.
