AIR Center Head of Department Javid Valiyev’s article titled “Objectives of Azerbaijan- Türkiye relations in the new era” has been published in “Yeni Şafak”.
The author touches upon the fraternal relations between the two countries, saying that Ilham Aliyev’s first official visit to Türkiye after being elected as the president, will further boost the existing cooperation.
Javid Valiyev highlights three important agreements signed between the parties: the establishment of a joint Türkiye -Azerbaijani university; cooperation in the field of veterinary medicine; agreement on the Elimination of Double Taxation with respect to Taxes on Income and the Prevention of Tax Evasion.”
J. Valiyev says that the messages delivered by presidents during the press conference, in fact, herald a beginning of a new era.
Stressing the positive role of the joint university in terms of the upbringing of new generations, he said that it would train modern scientists, which in turn, will contribute to the successful continuation of relations in the field of science between Azerbaijan and Türkiye.
Javid Valiyev says that the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia will be one of the major important areas in the bilateral agenda.
“On February 12, the Armenian army broke the ceasefire on the border and injured an Azerbaijani soldier, which seriously damaged the normalization process. As President Erdogan stated, Armenia needs to sign the peace treaty with a long-term strategic thinking. Here, President Erdogan delivered a message to third parties, especially France, which damages the process, that they should make a positive contribution”, the author added.
According to Javid Valiyev, the institutionalization and strengthening of the Organization of Turkish States (OTS) is one of the main objectives of the new era between the two allied countries. As after the elections, President Aliyev stated that OTS would be the primary foreign policy target in the new period.
“In this sense, strengthening OTS will also strengthen each member state of the organization,” he added.
In the conclusion, the author argues that some states will still resist to the new geopolitical reality in the post-Karabakh period and continue to arm Armenia. Therefore, President Ilham Aliyev’s last visit will play an important role in specifying the new objectives for the new period. Apart from the projects in the fields of education, economy, defense industry, energy and transportation, elevating the Organization of Turkic States globally will be of high priority.
