"The rules-based world order is at stake because of the selective application of international law and the wide spread double standards."

The Chairman of the Board, Farid Shafiyev, said during his address at the panel titled "The West and Global Security: Two Blocs, Really?" within the 16th edition of the MEDays Forum, in Tangiers, Morocco.

He noted that since the early 90s, Azerbaijan had to face the repercussions of double standards policy.

Azerbaijan  as a victim of occupation, has always advocated for the principles of international law.

Farid Shafiyev further spoke about the priorities of  Azerbaijan's foreign policy.

"If in the early 90s, we increasingly spoke about the Euro-Atlantic integration, now we have opted for the non-alignment status. The whole geopolitical events happening in our neighbourhood—the events in Georgia in 2008 and the war in Ukraine revealed the true nature of double standards."

According to him, double standards widen the geopolitical fault lines between the states.

Speaking on the current state of international affairs, the AIR Center Chairman mentioned that it would be incorrect to divide the world into the West and the Rest. Unlike the Cold War era, the world is now multipolar, with more rising regional and global powers.

He also noted that Azerbaijan has promoted the agenda of the Global South during its NAM chairmanship and afterwards.

"In terms of solutions to the problems, I would say that multilateralism should be strengthened and economic decolonization must be carried out," he concluded.
