The 30th anniversary of Azerbaijan-Poland diplomatic relations was marked in Warsaw

The 30th anniversary of the establishment of Azerbaijan-Poland diplomatic relations was marked in Warsaw on February 21, 2022. A roundtable was jointly organized by the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center) and the Center for Eastern Studies (OSW) with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Poland. During this event relations between the two countries were discussed with the participation of the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov, Deputy Foreign Minister of Poland Marcin Przydacz, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Poland Nargiz Gurbanova, the AIR Center Chairman Farid Shafiyev, the OSW Chairman Adam Eberhardt, ADA University Vice-Rector Fariz Ismayilzade, MP Aydin Mirzazade as well as of public and political figures and experts from Azerbaijan and Poland. The participants noted that 2022 marked not only the first anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Poland, but also the 550th anniversary of the establishment of historical ties between the two countries and the 5th anniversary of the signing of the Strategic Cooperation Agreement.

Rapid development and special dynamics in recent years in bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Poland was pointed out. Giving detailed information about the historical and modern aspects of these relations, Deputy Foreign Minister Khalafov highlighted that there is great potential for further development of economic, cultural, and humanitarian ties between the two countries.He also informed the audience about the new situation in the South Caucasus after the Second Karabakh War and invited Polish investors and companies to take part in the reconstruction of the liberated lands of Azerbaijan.

Confirming the high potential for development of bilateral relations, Polish Deputy Foreign Minister M. Przydacz noted that the strategic cooperation agreement signed by President Ilham Aliyev and President Andrzej Duda in 2017 laid a solid foundation in this regard. He stressed that Poland closely followed the situation in the South Caucasus and the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace process after the Second Karabakh War and supported this process during its Chairmanship at the OSCE.

The AIR Center Chairman Farid Shafiyev briefed the participants on the situation in the post-war period, Azerbaijan's constructive plans, as well as opportunities and threats to peace and cooperation in the region. He said that Azerbaijan was ready to sign a peace agreement with Armenia on the principle of mutual recognition of territorial integrity, but nationalist and revanchist forces in Armenia opposed it. He noted that the European Union has played an active role in the normalization of relations in recent months, which is important for peace and stability in the South Caucasus. Further, stamps made by the Polish Postal Service on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Poland were presented at the event. During the presentation President of the Polish Postal Service Tomasz Zdzikot expressed his hope for further development of relations between Azerbaijan and Poland.

The roundtable continued with speeches by public and political figures and experts from Azerbaijan and Poland.
