The Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center), in cooperation with the Social Sciences University of Ankara (ASBU), organized an event titled “Azerbaijan’s Chairmanship of the Organization of Turkic States and the Future of the Turkic World.”
Diplomats from Türkiye and Azerbaijan, representatives of political parties, and experts from various think tanks participated in the event.
The discussions, moderated by ASBU Professor Elem Eyrice Tepecikoghlu, aimed to contribute to a comprehensive academic assessment of the organization’s institutional development, strategic objectives, and future avenues of cooperation in the Turkic world during Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).
AIR Center Board Member Javid Valiyev, Associate Professor of the Azerbaijan State University of Economics Nazim Jafarsoy, and Head of the Department of Political Sciences and Philosophy Orkhan Valiyev underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation and advancing joint initiatives across the Turkic world.
In his remarks, Javid Valiyev highlighted the significance of integration processes within the OTS framework.
“Azerbaijan views the OTS as a platform for strategic cooperation. The OTS is not biased against any external actors and remains open to collaboration with all partners. Among the key areas of interaction in the Turkic world, defense and security issues hold particular importance. Azerbaijan has struggled against occupation for 30 years, while Türkiye has been combating terrorism for decades. Other member states are also confronting various security challenges. Therefore, it is essential to realize the idea of a joint army of the Turkic world.”
Nazim Jafarsoy delivered a presentation titled “Global Power Struggle and the OTS.” In his speech, he discussed the challenges currently facing the Turkic world, including economic difficulties, and emphasized the importance of expanding mutual economic and trade relations within the OTS. He noted that the strategic and global relevance of the Turkic states is expected to increase in the coming years.
Orkhan Valiyev delivered a presentation on “Azerbaijan-Turkistan Relations After the Karabakh Victory,” addressing the new opportunities that have emerged in the region following Azerbaijan’s victory in the 44-day Patriotic War. He shared his views on the development prospects of the Turkic world and the common challenges confronting the OTS.
The event concluded with a question-and-answer session.
