On April 29, the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center) hosted a meeting with the delegation of the Malaysian Parliament led by President of the Senate of the Parliament, Mr. Datuk Mutang Tagal.
Addressing the meeting, Chairman of the Board of the AIR Center Farid Shafiyev, highlighted Malaysia’s importance on a regional and global scale. He said that Malaysia had always had a principled stance on Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and had been vocal about it on various international platforms, including the UN Security Council, different institutions of the UN, and the OIC.
Farid Shafiyev briefed the guests about the regional dynamics, the current state of affairs with Armenia, the normalization process, as well as the AIR Center and its activities.
For his part, President of the Senate of the Parliament Mr. Datuk Mutang Tagal, extended his gratitude for the warm welcome. He underscored the importance of the AIR Center’s activities in terms of elaborating the issues of regional and global importance, as well as preparing foreign policy recommendations.
The President of the Senate of the Malaysian Parliament hailed the emergence of new opportunities for regional cooperation after the conflict page has been turned.
Stressing Azerbaijan’s strategic geographical position, President of the Senate of the Parliament Datuk Mutang Tagal pointed out to Azerbaijan's growing role as a Middle Power.
“Malaysia has always been very close with Azerbaijan. The two nations have been working very closely on a lot of issues of mutual interest”, he added.
He also drew attention to active cooperation between the two nations within the international platforms.
In the end, the Malaysian delegation was introduced with a small presentation about the history Azerbaijan, as well as the present situation in the region and energy, transportation projects.
The deliberations were followed by exchange of ideas on various aspects of international dynamics.
