On February 6, a hybrid conference jointly organized by the Center of Analysis of the International Relations (AIR Center) and Embassy of the Czech Republic in Azerbaijan, was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic.
During the opening speech the AIR Center Chairman, Farid Shafiyev mentioned that due to the growing relations between the Czech Republic and Azerbaijan, a document on strategic partnership between the two countries was signed in 2015. Farid Shafiyev also added that the Czech Republic is one of the countries that actively supports the development of Azerbaijan-EU relations.
Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Azerbaijan Milan Sedláček elaborated on a meeting of the Azerbaijan-Czech intergovernmental commission planned to be held in Prague at the beginning of March, 2023. Moreover, the ambassador noted that among other spheres cooperation between the Czech Republic and Azerbaijan is developing such as in the field of culture and education.
Tural Ganjaliyev, a member of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, emphasized the energy cooperation agreement signed between Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic and said that mutual investments in that field play a crucial role in the partnership of the two countries. He also talked about the common values, historical and cultural ties of the two nations. Tural Ganjaliyev noted that the realization of the Zangezur corridor project will open new opportunities for the European Union countries, including the Czech Republic, to develop cooperation with Central Asian countries in terms of transport and communication.
Former ambassador of the Czech Republic to Azerbaijan, Milan Ekert, spoke about the development of bilateral relations during his tenure in Azerbaijan. On his proposal on how to deepen the cooperation between the two countries he emphasized that Czech companies can be involved in the energy sector, as well as in the implementation of the "smart city" concept in Karabakh.
AIR Center Senior Advisor Shahmar Hajiyev briefed about the economic and energy partnership between Czechia and Azerbaijan. According to him, the trade turnover between the two countries in 2021 was close to 307 million dollars.
The conference further continued with discussions.
